
Cheryl L. Avila, PhD is a teacher’s teacher. She taught mathematics education at the University of Central Florida. Prior to UCF, Cheryl was a classroom teacher for over 20 years in Brevard County and Albuquerque, New Mexico. She has published numerous articles in state and national education journals.
In 2012, Cheryl was one of the first to be recognized nationally as a Master Teacher of Honor from the educational honor society, Kappa Delta Pi.
She was also named Doctoral Student of the Year by the Florida Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators and received the Graduate Student Teaching Award from the College of Education at the University of Central Florida.
Cheryl has a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Master of Arts in Secondary Education and Education Specialist Degree from the University of New Mexico, and a PhD in Mathematics Education from UCF. Her desire at Math Doctor is to share her passion for the natural beauty, fun, and humor in mathematics.
